This is a fabulous piece of work by Andy Beck. The attention to detail on both the watercolours and descriptions of each individual Fell is outstanding.A project on this scale almost sounds impossible to carry off, but Andy Beck had the willpower and drive to keep it going for 10 years. This labour of love has currently earned him two book awards and rightly so.The book itself is beautifully presented and the quality of the materials used are unsurpassed. This book will still look new in 50 years time.It is a book that you will refer back to for years to come, and I cannot recommend it enough. It is also in limited supply, so once they are gone they are gone.
This book is glorious! The pictures have come to life in a way that the line drawings couldn't quite achieve, and the whole book is testament to Andy's passion and commitment to this brilliant project. I love it. Can you tell?
Andy has produced a wonderful book, so much so I ordered two copies one for myself a nd one for my daughter. The items arrived promptly and were well packaged, Andy always responded to any queries and was of the utmost help. The book is a must have for anyone who enjoys beautiful images or who wants a compact album of past holidays Thank you Andy.
I can only agree with all the comments so far added to this site of this truly great book. You can see the passion Andy Beck has put into it. Seeing the Wainwright sketches produced in water colours brings them to life in vibrant way that I'm sure Wainwright himself would certainly approve of.This is one book that any Wainwright enthusiast simply must have on their bookshelf, I'm certainly glad I've a copy on mine.
I recently obtained a copy of 'The Wainwrights in Colour'and I was not disappointed. This book is a meticulous tribute to the initial collection of Wainwright books, which every visitor to the Lake District cannot fail to know. Each small painting captures all the thrilling detail from the exact positions Wainwright made his sketches, but this time in colour. Andy Beck has made each picture a true masterpiece with great text to accompany them, a real labour of love. Only 5000 copies available, making this surely a book to treasure well into our old age when we are no longer able to walk the fells. Hopefully the book will be passed on to future family generations to treasure. I loved the book so much I bought a second copy for a family member. Simply brilliant.
So glad I purchased this book, it is an absolute joy to turn each page. Having only enjoyed reaching the top of twenty or so Wainwrights so far I know this book will be looked through over the coming years both before and after each climb. Each colourful illustration and the accompanying text is so interesting, especially the small differences described between Wainwrights illustrations and the artists.A lot of hard work has gone into this book and the finished product is truly a work of art.
Having completed the 214 fells, this book was a reward to myself. And what a reward!! The accuracy of the reproductions of all 1500 sketches is remarkable, the quality is superb, and the text is extremely interesting. It really is a fabulous book, and an astonishing undertaking!!
Great to see a book honoring a legendary pipe smoker and hill walker. We're sure that dear old Wainwright will be having a bowl of his favourite blend this evening.
Since the first meeting with Andy Beck at Rheged when he launched the project, through visits to his then shop in Barnard Castle, I have followed this book with interest and admiration. It is a book born of Inspiration and completed with dogged determination. A superb book full of detailed watercolour paintings. I shall dip into it with immense pleasure for a long time to come. Well done indeed Andy Beck!
A truly wonderful work of art, a very fitting tribute to both a very dedicated fell walker and a dedicated artist and fell walker.
I will treasure my copy ...even though I feel sure, in time, Andy's book will become a sought-after classic. Superb workmanship.
I ordered this book for my dad's 85th birthday, dad has always admired Wainwright's work and always had a guide book in his rucksack. So when dad heard of Andy Beck's project he was intrigued. When Dad was given the book he was absolutely delighted, speechless and quite emotional. The book has pride of place on the coffee table! The amount of work, time and passion really shows in the production of this book. Fabulous, thank you.
Quite simply - a wonderful book, and one which any Wainwright devotee and fell-walker would be thrilled have on their bookshelf. If you haven't bought a copy yet I would strongly recommend that you do before they sell out, if they haven't already. Congratulations to Andy for creating such a beautiful and truly outstanding work of art.
As a member of the Wainwright Society and FB friend of Andy, I first heard about this project several years ago.I pre-ordered my copy along with the two limited edition prints, and was delighted, nay, honoured to be assigned edition No.2The book is a fantastic study of AW's work, bringing to life and putting a modern twist on the original line drawings featured in the pictorial guides, and will take pride of place in my bookshelf for years to come.Bravo Andy on your fantastic achievement, and bravo Esther for supporting him!
The book is a delight to browse, full of interest and beautiful pictures. I t is obviously a study in dedication and patience by the artist who has undertaken a real labour of love in this project. His knowledge and respect for the area, and Wainwright shines through and makes the book even more enjoyable. Thoroughly recommended
A superb book which as many have said was a labour of love over more than a decade. It is a treasured possession along with the original paintings of two fells which are admired by all who see them. For those who love the Lake District the book is a wonderful reminder of days on the fells following Wainwrights guides.
A brilliant and very informative book. An outstanding achievement.
A brilliant book of brilliant pictures and text, especially for anyone who loves the Lake District!
A fabulous book which is beautifully presented and has obviously been a labour of love. We are currently walking the Wainwrights and our guides are very old and battered it is lovely after a day on the hills to pick up this book and look at where we have been and any changes which have taken place. It will help to keep the Hills alive for us after we can no longer walk them. A dedicated artist who has produced a book we can treasure for many years, thank you.
The Wainwrights in Colour book is a masterpiece! The associated slideshow talks Andy has presented clearly demonstrate his enthusiasm for the project was as great toward the end of the project as it was when the idea was first conceived. Having received the finished book, I can see this labour of love is a ‘must-have’ future classic & true work of art(s)! A unique book for any discerning AW fan… just Wow! What a beautiful thing… it’s a privilege to own & we’re still enjoying looking through it. Well done Andy, you worked hard during the past 10 years & accomplished something really special. An amazing achievement.
