On the Edge

Whilst working away in the studio producing new work my mind often wanders back to memorable days out “On Location”. So it was recently when I was painting a new version of a classic view- Striding Edge on Helvellyn. Originally I produced a small sketch of this scene for The Wainwrights in Colour but I always had it on my list to produce a larger and more detailed work from this reference.

It began with a memorable winters day out on the eastern fells a few years back when I headed up from Glenridding specifically to obtain this reference as well as others. It turned out that luck was on my side on this day and the weather played ball- it often didn’t on my adventures.

Consequently I have put together another short film which illustrates the day.

Even though the images in the film were taken with a relatively simple 4 mp Fuji camera they still evoke stong memories for me, as do all the days that I have spent out on the hills.

As for that watercolour painting…..well it’s just one of a series that I am completing at this time, that’s just one of the reasons that I am so busy.
